It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of S Benish Shah -MD and TX – Daughter of  Adeel A Shah and Musharrat A Shah and family to Nadia A Shah and Nabeel A Shah and Maryam Ishtiaq

The Funeral was held at Maryland National Memorial Cemetery Laurel MD

Benish was  an award-winning, industry-agnostic go-to-market executive and consultant with more than 10 years of experience taking companies and products to market and growing organizations.Known for growing nascent industries with first-mover initiatives, she’s worked across CPG, SaaS, media, web3, and fashion. Her work has won awards including Fast Company’s Innovation by Design Award, multiple CLIO Awards, and Digiday and Webby honors.

She also won the 2019 Amazing Women in e-Commerce Award.Currently she’s advising several startups including The Other and Motivote, while serving on the Board of Greyston and the Advisory Board of Hello Neighbor.

She’s was also working on her next book and writes a column at The Muse on identifying and working through toxic workplaces.Benish served as VP of Marketing at Stardust.gg, spearheading brand and messaging transformation that landed standalone articles in Bloomberg and Venture Beat and a $30 million Series A raise while helping grow the company from 10 to 50 people in less than 12 months. Prior to that, she served as the Chief Growth Officer at Loop and Tie taking the company from 5 to 20+ employees and 3x revenue within two years.

She’s a founding member of COVID Tech Connect, a non-profit that raised $10M+ in less than 6 months to help during the COVID 2020 crisis.Before the SaaS space, Benish was the VP of Marketing at Raised Real (acquired by Once Upon a Farm), where she took the company national, revamped the brand, grew revenue by 800%, and brought on Hollywood’s Nikki Reed as an investor and advisor.

Before RR, she was the Head of Product Marketing at Refinery29 where she created the Product Marketing, User Research, and Product Strategy functions. At Refinery29, she launched R29’s first app, revamped affiliate revenue strategy, drove revenue generation through technology and proprietary data & research, and led marketing for the company’s premier 29Rooms experience.

Benish was an advisor to DoSomething.org and VentureForce Global. Winner of Emory University’s Humanitarian Award in 2008, Benish advises on marketing and fundraising strategy for non-profits, including She’s the First’s 10th Anniversary Gala, DoSomething.org, Chicken & Egg, CAMP-NY, Iqra Fund, and more.

Previously she led market strategy at Say Media, co-founded and ran Before the Label, served as Head of Strategy for Eva Khurshid, a NY based fashion line, and exited her first startup – an online mag called Neem Magazine. She launched the first-ever Product Marketing course at General Assembly to help more women into the technology and product field.

In addition to authoring two children’s books, Benish has been published in Touro Law Journal, Forbes Women, Inc., University of Pennsylvania Journal of Law and Social Change, Huffington Post, Forbes, and more on entrepreneurship, technology, and marketing strategy.

Benish has a JD from Emory University School of Law and a BA from The George Washington University.
