It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mando Khan Mohmand who was born in Afghanistan and passed away in Fairfax, Virginia, on September 26, 2025.
He was a devoted father, grandfather, and uncle whose warmth, generosity, and kindness left a lasting imprint on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Mando lived a life marked by integrity, wisdom, and service. In Afghanistan, he served honorably as the District Attorney of Kabul, earning respect as a man of justice and principle. After immigrating to the United States, he poured his energy into building multiple businesses—always working tirelessly to create opportunities for his family and community. Yet, despite his many professional successes, his proudest accomplishment was not measured in titles or achievements but in the lives and character of his children. He instilled in them the belief that they could make a positive difference in the world, reminding them always to uplift others and leave the world better than they found it.
Having grown up among vineyards, Mando carried with him a deep appreciation for the earth and its beauty. He was an avid gardener who found joy in nurturing life, and he had a remarkable way of befriending animals wherever he went. His love for nature reflected the gentleness of his spirit and his abiding respect for all living things.
Above all else, Mando was a loving and supportive father. His life’s work was dedicated to his family and to the values he held most dear—love, peace, forgiveness, and education. He was especially committed to the empowerment of girls and women, providing scholarships and encouragement so that higher education could be within their reach. Through this legacy, countless lives were touched and transformed.
To his family, friends, and community, Mando will always be remembered as the kindest and most compassionate of souls—a man who led by quiet example and whose presence brought peace. His memory will continue to guide and inspire all who knew him.
Mando is survived by his beloved children: Selai, Ogay, Orbal, Emal, and grandchildren, Gabriel, Selai Jr., Rafi, Rawand, and Alexandria, along with many other family members and friends who cherished him.
